So, the cold snap has seemingly broken. Down in Florida, temperatures returned to normal, with some places even reaching 70 degrees. Here in the great Northeast, it didn’t get that warm, but it did warm up. For seemingly the first time since Christmas, the temperature went above freezing, and well, I couldn’t be happier. I actually ventured outside without a ski cap, gloves and scarf.

Of course, my skin is still pale as could be, I feel like a ghost. As a result, I decided to check and see if it really has been as cold as I’ve felt.

As a result of my independent study, thanks to data from Wunderground.com, since Dec. 28, the high temperature here in New York has not reached the average high temperature until, well, today. In addition, the low temperature has only exceeded the average low twice in the same time. That’s what I call cold.

Depending on which service I looked at — my the Weather App on my BlackBerry, the New York Times Web site, my car or Bing.com — the temperature when I went to lunch at about 12:15 p.m. in Mineola was either 37 degrees, 39 degrees, 43 degrees or 39.6 degrees. Still, mostly all above the average temperature for today, 38 degrees.

Here’s my analysis of the temperatures, in chart form, from Christmas until today.
